چکیده

Traditional backtracking search algorithms for solving constraint satisfaction problems select a variable and then construct a separate branch for each value in the variable’s domain: the order in which the values are assigned then has no effect on the overall search, when finding all solutions. Constraint solvers such as ILOG Solver and ECLPS instead use binary branching in constructing search trees: each node represents a choice between assigning a value to a variable and not assigning that value. The value ordering does then affect the search effort when finding all solutions. We show how this can happen by analysing search trees formed under opposite value orders and investigate empirically the effect on search from different value orders. The mechanism by which a good value order can prune the search suggests what we should aim for in choosing a value order. We suggest that for some classes of problem, lexicographic order may still be a priori a reasonable choice.

An Empirical Investigation of the Relation between Corporate Sustainability Performance (CSP) and Corporate Value: Evidence from Iran

This study provides an empirical evidence on how Corporate Sustainability Performance (CSP), is reflected in the corporate value. Using a theoretical framework combining Legitimacy theory, Stakeholder theory and Agency theory, a set of hypotheses that relate the corporate value to CSP is examined. For a sample of Iranian firms, 28 components with four dimensions as Community, Environment, Emplo...

A single-vendor and a single-buyer integrated inventory model with ordering cost reduction dependent on lead time

Lead time is one of the major limits that affect planning at every stage of the supply chain system. In this paper, we study a continuous review inventory model. This paper investigates the ordering cost reductions are dependent on lead time. This study addressed two-echelon supply chain problem consisting of a single vendor and a single buyer. The main contribution of this study is that the in...

Value Ordering for Finding All Solutions: Interactions with Adaptive Variable Ordering

We consider the impact of value ordering heuristics on the search effort required to find all solutions, or proving none exist, to a constraint satisfaction problem in k-way branching search. We show that when the variable ordering heuristic is adaptive, the order in which the values are assigned to variables can make a significant difference in all measures of search effort. We study in depth ...

Value Ordering for Finding All Solutions

In finding all solutions to a constraint satisfaction problem, or proving that there are none, with a search algorithm that backtracks chronologically and forms k-way branches, the order in which the values are assigned is immaterial. However, we show that if the values of a variable are assigned instead via a sequence of binary choice points, and the removal of the value just tried from the do...

An Examination of Probabilistic Value-Ordering Heuristics

Searching for solutions to constraint satisfaction problems (CSPs) is NP-hard in general. Heuristics for variable and value ordering have proven useful in guiding the search towards more fruitful areas of the search space and hence reducing the amount of time spent searching for solutions. Static ordering methods impart an ordering in advance of the search and dynamic ordering methods use infor...
